The jungle owlet

The jungle owlet (ചെമ്പൻ നത്ത്), 

barred jungle owlet, (Glaucidium radiatum) is found in the Indian Subcontinent. The species is often found singly, in pairs or small groups and are usually detected by their calls at dawn and dusk. There are two subspecies with the form found in the Western Ghats sometimes considered a full species.

ഇന്ത്യയിലേയും ശ്രീലങ്കയിലേയും വരണ്ട പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ കാണാനാവുന്ന മൂങ്ങകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് ചെമ്പൻനത്ത്^{[3] [4][5][6]} (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Glaucidium radiatum), ഒറ്റയ്ക്കോ ഇണയോടൊപ്പമോ ചെറിയ സംഘങ്ങളായോ സാധാരണ കാണാവുന്നതാണ്. രാവിലെയും വൈകുന്നേരവും ശബ്ദം പ്രത്യേകം തിരിച്ചറിയാനാവുന്നതാണ്. പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിൽ ഇവയുടെ ഒരു ഉപജാതിയേയും കാണാവുന്നതാണ്. കേരളത്തിൽ സാധാരണ കാണപ്പെടുന്നത് ഉപജാതി ആണ് (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Glaucidium radiatum malabaricum).
