Stork-billed kingfisher  The stork-billed kingfisher - കാക്ക മീൻകൊത്തി (Pelargopsis capensis), is a tree kingfisher which is widely but sparsely distributed in the tropical Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, from India to Indonesia. This kingfisher is resident throughout its range. പ്രാവിനോളം വലിപ്പമുള്ള മീൻ‌കൊത്തിയാണ്‌ കാക്കമീൻ‌കൊത്തി. : Stork billed Kingfisher : Pelagopsis capensis. കേരളത്തിലെ മീൻ‌കൊത്തികളിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിപ്പമുള്ളത് ഇതിനാണ്‌. നല്ല കപ്പൽ മുളകിന്റെ നീളമുള്ള കൂറ്റൻ കൊക്കും, തവിട്ടു നിറമുള്ള തലയുമൊഴിച്ചാൽ, നമ്മുടെ മീൻകൊത്തികൾക്കിടെയിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലുതായ ഈ പക്ഷി ചെറിയ മീൻകൊതിയുടെ നേർപകർപ്പാണെന്നു പറയാം.വലിപ്പമുള്ള ഇതിന്റെ വലിപ്പം മൂലമാണ്‌ കാക്കമീൻ കൊത്തി എന്ന പേർ വന്നത്. വലിയ മീൻകൊത്തി എന്നും പറയാറുണ്ട്. ©Akshay kallara Location :Thenmala Date :25/4/2021

Great hornbill The  great hornbill  ( Buceros bicornis ) also known as the  concave-casqued hornbill ,  great Indian hornbill  or  great pied hornbill , is one of the larger members of the  hornbill  family. It is found in the  Indian subcontinent  and  Southeast Asia . Its impressive size and colour have made it important in many tribal cultures and rituals. The great hornbill is long-lived, living for nearly 50 years in captivity. It is predominantly frugivorous, but is an opportunist and will prey on small mammals, reptiles and birds.(wikipedia)

The jungle owlet (ചെമ്പൻ നത്ത്),  barred jungle owlet, (Glaucidium radiatum) is found in the Indian Subcontinent. The species is often found singly, in pairs or small groups and are usually detected by their calls at dawn and dusk. There are two subspecies with the form found in the Western Ghats sometimes considered a full species. ഇന്ത്യയിലേയും   ശ്രീലങ്കയിലേയും  വരണ്ട പ്രദേശങ്ങളിൽ കാണാനാവുന്ന  മൂങ്ങകളിൽ  ഒന്നാണ്  ചെമ്പൻനത്ത് [3]   [4] [5] [6]  (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Glaucidium radiatum), ഒറ്റയ്ക്കോ ഇണയോടൊപ്പമോ ചെറിയ സംഘങ്ങളായോ സാധാരണ കാണാവുന്നതാണ്. രാവിലെയും വൈകുന്നേരവും ശബ്ദം പ്രത്യേകം തിരിച്ചറിയാനാവുന്നതാണ്.  പശ്ചിമഘട്ടത്തിൽ  ഇവയുടെ ഒരു ഉപജാതിയേയും കാണാവുന്നതാണ്. കേരളത്തിൽ സാധാരണ കാണപ്പെടുന്നത് ഉപജാതി ആണ് (ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം: Glaucidium radiatum malabaricum). ©Akshay Kallara  Location :Thenmala Date: 19/4/2021

White-Throated Kingfisher  മീൻകൊത്തിച്ചാത്തൻ The white-throated kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) also known as the white-breasted kingfisher is a tree kingfisher, widely distributed in Asia from the Sinai east through the Indian subcontinent to the Philippines. This kingfisher is a resident over much of its range, although some populations may make short distance movements. It can often be found well away from water where it feeds on a wide range of prey that includes small reptiles, amphibians, crabs, small rodents and even birds. During the breeding season they call loudly in the mornings from prominent perches including the tops of buildings in urban areas or on wires.

Indian pond heron The  Indian pond heron  or  paddybird  ( Ardeola grayii ) is a small  heron . It is of  Old World  origins, breeding in southern  Iran  and east to the  Indian subcontinent ,  Burma , and  Sri Lanka . They are widespread and common but can be easily missed when they stalk prey at the edge of small water-bodies or even when they roost close to human habitations. They are however distinctive when they take off with bright white wings flashing in contrast to the cryptic streaked olive and brown colours of the body.
